I've been reading that a lot of insurance companies now have to cover breast pumps and breastfeeding support for members, but have also heard that most people are only approved for a manual pump. Has anyone been successful at getting an electric pump? Did you have any choice as to which pump you got?

Women are successful on a daily basis. But you need to think about *why* you need a pump. Some companies will only cover an electric pump if you can show there will separation of mother and baby. Otherwise, the baby can just be breastfed, or a manual pump will be adequate for the 1 or fewer times a day it will be necessary for the limited amount of pumping necessary.
On the other hand, some companies will offer you a pump only after the baby is born, and some companies, following the directions of the company supplying the benefits to its employees, will not cover pumps at all.
The only way to find out what your insurance company will provide is to call the company and ask. If you have complaints, you can speak to your state insurance commissioner.. If you are a WIC client, you can also ask what WIC might provide.

Can you pump one breast with Ameda Purely Yours breastpump or does it have to be both?

Can you pump one breast at a time with the Ameda Purely Yours breastpump, or do you always have to do both at the same time? I think I read somewhere that they provide you with a manual pump, but I was just wondering if the machine works with just one side.

I had the Ameda Purely Yours. There is a simple valve closure so that if you only want to use one pump at a time, you can close off the tubing for the other pump. Read the directions. But it's really very simple.
