breast pump nipple soreness image
Jasmine
I haven't gotten any soreness in my breast since the week I stopped breastfeeding my 3yr old that was a month ago. Since Sunday morning one breast & nipple has been sore not too bad but if I sqeeze my nipple a lil of milk will show they don't leak. Or is my breast hurts because im gonna ovulate? Idk if breast tenderness is a symptom of ovulation. The first day of my last period was the 6th of this month.
Answer
I agree, beast soreness is due to your breastfeeding. If by squeezing, milk is still being released means that you still have milk to pump. When ovulating, it's more about the discharge you see on your panty liner, as well as 'feeling' wet.

what do you feed a baby before the breastmilk comes in?
hey
also he wont latch on, so should my wife use a breast pump to keep the milk production up. also this is the first day her breast are sore and painful, does that mean hermilk is in the process or coming in or that its already here? its 4 days after the baby's been born so should we use formula unitl the milk is in?
what should she do to increase her milk production since the baby wont latch on.
Answer
the first few days after birth milk is NOT present as one is accustomed to seeing milk. instead a thick substance comes out...this is all the baby NEEDS until the milk comes in. this "small" amount of colostrum is so packed with vital nutrients for the newborn that it doesn't need large volumes like he will get when the milk comes in.
and yes, soreness and heaviness/fullness is very common when the milk comes in. go down to target and pick up a nipple shield (looks sort of a like a thin nipple for a bottle...but doesn't attach to one) it will cover her nipple while she is nursing so baby can latch easier...
and of course try to get a hold of a lactation nurse through your doctor or la leche league...WIC...
the only way to increase production is to nurse which is why i suggest the nipple shield until you can see a lactation nurse...
good luck!
congrats on the baby and your wife's decision to breastfeed, one of the best choices to make for a new baby! <3
